SUBMISSION: The Problem With Sexuality Labels

THE PROBLEM WITH SEXUALITY LABELS is that they force something to be discrete when it is, in actuality, continuous. Gender is fluid, and so is sexuality, but the way we must name ourselves does not reflect that.

Yes, I consider myself gay.

No, I don’t consider myself lesbian.

Yes, I like girls.

Yes, I like boys… i think. kind of.

No, I do not consider myself bisexual or pansexual.

No, I don’t have a good reason for that except that those labels don’t feel right.

I may not be in charge of who I am, but I am at least in charge of what I call myself. So let me pick.

I will fall in love with whomever I will fall in love with. People saying “so, does that mean you’re bi?” won’t change who I love.
