On May 12, 2012, the New York Times reported on Lorena Escalera’s death in the midst of a fire in Brooklyn apartment. It was a highly problematic and glaringly dehumanizing article that focused on her body, her alleged sex work profession, her sexuality and much more. GLAAD…

A harsh new ad from the group says social shares aren’t enough, in a new turn in the online-activism debate.
Fuck UNICEF. This is disgusting and reeks of privilege and entitlement. Not everyone can afford to donate to a cause; therefore, spreading the word about a group’s work is sometimes the best that folks can do. After all, most people find out about social issues and groups that help folks out largely via social media sites and their followers. Shaming folks who are only trying to help the best way that they can is despicable and should not be praised in any way.
Furthermore, social media sites are how many folks find out if a group is reputable and otherwise a good cause to donate their time and/or money to. It is also a good way to spread the word about bigoted asshats and their ridiculous ad campaigns - so SIGNAL BOOST.

The backlash from San Francisco Pride’s denial statement yesterday continues tomorrow on the streets.
So this is a movie about transgender people, that has (from the images) at least 4/5 of the main people as TPoC (and 3/5 are Black).
Let’s boost the fuck out of this and see if we can’t get them the money for this doc.

WEZESHA in Partnership with Ilala Municipality is Establishing a Gay Clinic at Tabata Health Center to help provide free quality health services, including HIV testing, TB screening, treatment care, and support to more than 500 LGBT people in Dar es Salaam region, this will be the first and only Clinic in Tanzania where LGBT people can access free Quality health services.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
More than 2 Million LGBT people in Tanzania do not have access to quality health services including HIV prevention, treatment care, and support due to rejection, neglect, and Criminalization that is based on gender identity and sexual orientation. LGBT people continually face stigma and discrimination, harassment and arbitrary arrests, and even alienation from family therefore. Things are so difficult for some LGBT people living with HIV that they medicate themselves with battery acid.
How will this project solve this problem?
We will provide free quality treatment, HIV testing, and counseling, along with free condoms and skills training to more than 500 LGBT people in the Dar es Salaam region.
Potential Long Term Impact
The project will increase access to quality health services to approximately 500 LGBT people in the Dar es Salaam region, thus hopefully reducing the HIV / STI infection rate
As a gay man who has been denied access to quality health services in public health facilities several times due to my sex orientation, I was looking for a way to help end this problem in Tanzania.

The Ali Forney Center is the largest nationwide organization dedicated to LGBTQ homeless youth.
There are currently 39 items on their Amazon wish list, most being undergarments like tank tops, plain tees, undies and chest binders for the youth they shelter. A majority of the items are less than $20 and the most expensive item is only $35.
Let’s try to help them by Tumblr bombing the shit out the Ali Forney Center with direct donations and purchasing everything on their wish list!
PLEASE donate or reblog or something. Unless you want to keep pretending that marriage is the biggest queer rights issue so that you can say you’re an ally without actually doing anything to help.
We can hardly believe that Legalize Trans* launched in 2010. We started with one shirt on a website that was only a single page.
Today, we relaunched our site to show off the community that Legalize Trans* has become. Check it out, there are tons of smiling faces waiting for you.
And then add yourself.
I seriously need to get me one of these shirts!
