A Gender Not Listed Here: Genderqueers, Gender Rebels, and OtherWise in the National Transgender Discrimination Survey
by Jack Harrison, Jaime Grant, and Jody L. Herman
In the landmark 2008 National Transgender Discrimination Survey, respondents were given the latitude to write in their own gender if the predefined categories were not representative. This article reanalyzes the survey data to determine the experiences of those respondents who chose to write in their own gender. By examining several key domains of the study—education, health care, employment, and police harassment—it becomes evident that gender variant respondents are suffering significant impacts of anti-transgender bias and in some cases are at higher risk for discrimination and violence than their transgender counterparts in the study.

Trans Queers: Call out for Trans/Genderqueer Models in DC & NYC
(I hope you post this! I’m a genderqueer of color myself…)
I’m working on another photo collaboration with epic illustrator Molly Crabapple and I need Trans/Genderqueer/Genderfabulous/Differently Gendered Models (especially Folks of COLOR) in the DC or NYC area.

See images from our last project: http://filthygorgeousthings.com/ritual/impossible-couture
The shoot is done using a Lomography film medium format camera, and the photos shouldn’t take more than 90-120 minutes to take. They require semi-nudity (topless or undergarments) and natural light.
Feel free to email Najvasol@gmail.com if you’re interested!

Genderqueer Health: Mind and Body Survey - Both statistics and excerpts now available!
gqid:
Click the link above to check it out! Further excerpts may be added in the future, for now I have gathered five apiece for the write-in sections that represent a diverse array of experiences. What conducting this survey has taught me most, or confirmed rather, is that not only is there not a single trans*, genderqueer, or non-binary “narrative” but that not everyone has the same access to or experience of care. Some respondents had a relatively easy time obtaining the procedures or hormone access they desired, while some had a difficult time or haven’t yet gotten what they need at all. Some cannot afford to go or are afraid for personal reasons or due to a family situation. Some have had supportive therapists and doctors, others have had mixed experiences or much difficulty overall in informing these people about their identities. Reading these responses gives me as much hope as it brings about awareness that access to care and the way that care is administered is in need of improvement.
Again, I thank everyone for participating for the wealth of information that this will provide to those seeking care or perhaps even those seeking to improve the way they treat their patients.
