Liberty Counsel To Gay Teens: You’re Depressed Because You’re Sinners

By Zack Ford

Matt Barber

The Liberty Counsel’s Matt Barber has penned a letter to gay teens — which he condescendingly qualifies as “gay” teens — that confirms the clear animus he and his fellow conservatives have for LGBT people. His outright condemnation that homosexuals are sinner going directly to Hell is offensive enough, but worse yet, he suggests that gay teens are not depressed because of the homophobia they experience, but merely because they’re sinners:

God’s word also says that when we sin sexually, it’s particularly egregious because our bodies are the temple of Christ. This separation from God – a natural result of sexual sin – can lead to depression and even despair.

If you feel such despair, know this: it is not “homophobia” causing it, as adult enablers might tell you, but, rather, it is the sin itself that causes it (or struggling alone, absent Christ, with the temptation to sin). […]

If you continue down this wide, empty path, make no mistake: it will not “get better.”

It gets much, much worse. […]

Kids, take your sexual confusion – your struggle with sin – to Christ.

No one else can give you rest.

Of course, by telling young people to reject the very core of their identities and deny themselves the opportunity to experience love in their lives, he is reinforcing the very despair many LGBT youth struggle with.

Attorney Claims Census Data Promotes A "Sexual Anarchist Agenda" | advocate.com

By Winston Gieseke

MATT BARBER X390 (GRAB) | ADVOCATE.COM

A marriage equality foe is bristling over the results of the 2010 census, which reports that about 20% of same-sex couples in the U.S. are enjoying legally recognized partnerships.

Matt Barber, vice president of Liberty Counsel Action, says the U.S. Census Bureau’s decision to track information about same-sex families — a first for the 2010 census — is yet another attempt by the Obama administration to legitimize same-sex marriage.

One News Now reports that Barber is accusing the bureau, under the leadership of President Obama, of “working against the law of the land to promote a sexual anarchist agenda” by undermining the Defense of Marriage Act.

“It’s really shameful that the United States Census Bureau was complicit in, if not violating the letter of the law, at least very much violating the spirit of the law,” Barber laments.

Data from the 2010 census revealed that approximately 20% of the estimated 646,464 same-sex couples in the United States listed a “husband” or “wife” on their census forms.

“This is another attempted chip-away at the Defense of Marriage Act and to gain full federal sanctioning and government recognition of counterfeit same-sex marriage,” Barber says.

Liberty Counsel: Gays Are Terrorists Who Want To Jail Conservatives

by David Badash

The Liberty Counsel’s J. Matt Barber says on his daily radio talk show that gays are terrorists and want to put conservatives in jail. Barber, who in the past worked for the now-certified hate group Americans For Truth About Homosexuality, is the Director of Cultural Affairs for Liberty Counsel and is an Associate Dean with Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University School of Law.

“I’ve said this before and I’ll say it right now,” Barber says on an episode of Faith & Freedom, which will air later this week. “The sexual anarchist lobby, this radical, militant lobby, wants three things in this order: they want to see those of us who hold traditional values and have a biblical view of sexual behavior and sexual morality; they want to see us behind bars. Absent that, if that doesn’t work, they want to see us discredited, our licenses, my law licenses revoked, unable to teach in schools and so forth. They want us completely discredited and marginalized to the fringes of society. Finally and included in that is the inability, they want to see people like us not able to make a living. And that’s why they’re going after these organizations and they’re using economic terrorism, for lack of a better phrase.”

Curiously, just yesterday, Bryan Fischer, Barber’s compatriot in the militant anti-gay movement, stated that he wanted to see homosexuals behind bars. It’s almost a race to see who can make the most outlandish statement this week!

Brian Tashman of Right Wing Watch, who again generously provides us with this transcript, and who has the audio on their site (go listen to it!) writes today,

“Liberty Counsel’s Matt Baber dedicates the program to discussing how “homo-fascists” are unfairly pressuring businesses to drop out of the “charity-giving” program run by the right-wing CGBG. As noted in previous posts, the CGBG sets up a virtual mall for consumers to shop at companies and donate part of their proceeds to charity groups. However, these charities include the far-right, anti-gay Family Research Council, Focus on the Family, and Liberty Counsel. Barber, who in 2008 personally led a boycott rally in front of McDonalds’ corporate headquarters, now complains that LGBT rights and women’s rights advocates are using “economic terrorism” to convince retailers to leave the CGBG.

“Taking a page from Tony Perkins and Bill Donohue, Barber claims that the Religious Right are victims of persecution from gays and lesbians.”

Regular readers will remember that Liberty Counsel are the lovely folks who represented Florida teacher Jerry Buell last week. Buell is the teacher who wrote on Facebook that he “almost threw up” when he heard the news about New York’s marriage equality law passing. Buell also called same-sex marriage “sin,” and part of a larger “cesspool.”

The gun-shilling Barber in the past has said that Liberalism is hatred for God,

And let’s not forget the bigger movement here, to paint gays as un-American as possible. The Right has now decided to use anti-Islam tactics against us.

Barber says we practice “terrorism,” Santorum says we are waging a “jihad” against him, and Brian Brown of NOM, the National Organization For Marriage, says we waged a “fatwa” against Florida teacher Jerry Buell.

Obama and DOMA - high crimes and misdemeanors?

In the opinion of Liberty Counsel’s Matt Barber, Obama’s order to change the 1997 Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) to include a 24-hour “leave without pay” benefit to domestic partners represents another abuse of power.

“He has, via unconstitutional executive fiat, unilaterally and arbitrarily disregarded the federal Defense of Marriage Act, known as DOMA, which states that the federal government only recognizes legitimate marriage as between one man and one woman,” Barber contends.

Matt BarberBut he is hopeful the voting public will send a message to the president.

“After November 2, it’s my hope that some gutsy legislators in Congress will begin to look at this and other legally dubious actions by this president to determine if we may have high crimes and misdemeanors here on the part of this despotic man,” the Liberty Counsel attorney adds.

Barber thinks the president is trying to overturn DOMA through incremental steps, but notes that he is actually taking huge bites of the apple at once. In doing so, he thinks President Obama is playing the role of executive, legislative, and judiciary because only Congress has the legal authority to provide the benefits that are being enforced.
