I was sent this video by someone in our community who wishes to remain anonymous. (Thank you so much for creating this and sharing it). It is a powerful video that pays tribute to a select few of the queer community that have been bullied to death. Queer suicide is NOT some new phenomenon, folks. This has been occurring since the beginning of time. The time to be passive is through.

My girlfriend and I wore some purple plaid when we were out and about today in honor of our fellow queers who have taken their lives due to bullying because of their perceived gender and/or sexual orientation. We answered questions about the queer community when they were asked. All in all, today was received quite well. We are lucky enough to have friends and family members - as well as fellow work associates - willing to show their support by wearing purple on this day of spirit. It is incredibly nice to see that so many people have been coming out, standing up and fighting for those who can no longer speak. And, I must add that is awesome of tumblr to have shown its true colors as well. Today definitely has been a day of spirit. Thank you all. How about YOU? Any interesting stories? Photos?

I am wearing purple in remembrance of EVERYONE who has fallen in our community.

I am wearing purple, because I care about human rights for EVERYONE.

I am wearing purple to raise awareness and educate others about queer suicides.

I am wearing purple to combat ignorance, hate and discrimination.

I am wearing purple to show my support for the queer community.

Today, I am a voice for those who cannot speak.

Take action. Educate. Spread the word.

I am in the process of designing some flyers for my place of work to help promote October 20th, 2010.

On this particular day, we are asking anyone and everyone to wear purple. This NATIONWIDE event was created in order to raise awareness of LGBTQ+ suicides - past and present - and also to honor those who have committed suicide for being ‘different’.

Hopefully, this event encourages youths to seek help - and will forever remind them that they are NOT alone.

Thus far, everyone at work seems pretty into it. Everyone is willing to take part. In fact, I was actually approached by a fellow associate who wanted to collaborate on the event. It is good to know that I am privileged enough to work in such an accepting, open-minded and caring environment. I love my associates.
