White anti-racists (e.g. Tim Wise) are NOT exempt from criticisms of White privilege and White supremacy.

I repeat: White anti-racists (e.g. Tim Wise) are NOT exempt from criticisms of White privilege and White supremacy.

And white/Western feminists are NOT exempt from criticism pertaining to their white female privilege, racism, jingoism and neocolonialist white feminist savior bullshit.

Gay assimilationists want to make sure they’re on the winning side in the citizenship wars, and thus they see no need to confront the legacies of systemic and systematic U.S. oppression that prevent most people living in this country (and anywhere else) from exercising their supposed “rights.”

Willful participation in U.S. imperialism is crucial to the larger goal of assimilation, as the holy trinity of marriage, military service and adoption has become the central preoccupation of a gay movement centered more on obtaining straight privilege than challenging power.

LGBT” usually means gay, with lesbian in parentheses, throw out the bisexuals, and put trans on for a little window dressing. Don’t even think about queers who don’t fit neatly into one of the prevailing categories!

White privilege is having a quirky spelling/variation of a “traditional” first name and not being mocked for it.

Mod note: I will forever be perplexed as to why “Ashlee” is a cute name for a white girl, but a ghetto name for a black girl. wut?

White privilege is invading, pillaging, colonizing and then changing the names of a country of indigenous people, their customs, and the natural landmarks of the environment in which they live, so that those new names reflect your standards and symbolize your imperial dominance over that nation.

White privilege is being able to enjoy Disney films as good old fashioned family fun instead of a reminder that you’re living in a culture that thinks of you as inferior or doesn’t think of you at all… And no, white folks, four poc as protagonists does not count.

Call for submissions:
Aporia vol. 1: An inquisition into the experience of power and identity
——
This is it! My first zine. I am looking for submissions of all kinds (drawings, comics, paintings, photography, poetry, essays, short stories, rants, etc.). It has to fit into a black & white zine and also fit with this volume’s theme, “experience of power and identity,” with an emphasis on experience.
I am aiming to collect all submissions by July 15, so that I have time to edit the pieces and arrange it thoughtfully into one volume by sometime in August. Please contact me with questions and submissions via aporia.zine@gmail.com. If you are still working on ideas but want to contribute, email me and we’ll figure it out together.
Looking forward to your submissions!

When we understand that privileged people derive material benefits from the exploitation of oppressed people, and that this means we benefit from the violence used to keep them down, we cannot sincerely condemn them for violently rebelling against the structrual violence that privileges us.

Paragraph 175: The Holocaust and Homosexuals

Gay Holocaust VictimsGermany’s Third Reich considered homosexuals common criminals; many were arrested and sent to concentration camps. Once there, they were forced to wear a pink triangle as a brand of their supposedly ‘special’ perversion. Given the fear many gay people lived under back then, it is little wonder how little of their experiences in the death camps is known. However, it is thought that their death rate was higher than any other group.
