Michigan Politician's Antigay Facebook Post Linked to Holocaust Denier

The original author of the antigay screed posted by Dave Agema has reportedly drawn on the work of a hard-core racist and anti-Semite.

Dave Agema, the Republican National Committee member former Michigan state representative who has been roundly criticized for a recent antigay Facebook post, has drawn his “facts” about homosexuality from some extremely disreputable sources — including a Holocaust denier, reports MLive.com. Last month Agema posted an essay titled “Everyone Should Know These Statistics on Homosexuals” by a writer identified as Frank Joseph, a physician. The article is also available with footnotes on several right-wing websites, and one footnote credits a pamphlet called “Is Homosexual Activity Normal?” by Edward R. Fields.

Fields, reports MLive.com contributor Ken Braun in an article posted today, is identified by the Anti-Defamation League as a nonpracticing chiropractor from Georgia who is not only antigay but a white supremacist and Holocaust denier. One “dubious bullet-point” the essay drew from Fields, Braun notes, is “The median age of death of lesbians is 45 (only 24% live past age 65). The median age of death of a married heterosexual woman is 79.” Other “Fields facts” from the piece are “similarly outrageous,” Braun reports, including “37% of homosexuals engage in sadomasochism,” “60% say they have had sex with strangers in bathhouses,” and “Homosexuals are 100 times more likely to be murdered.”

“Having chosen to use the work of Dr. Fields, the author of the pamphlet Agema posted is — at best — a highly reckless and inflammatory hack whose drivel is nonetheless doggedly defended by an elected officer of the Republican Party,” writes Braun, a political consultant and former legislative aide to a Michigan Republican lawmaker.

Braun joins a chorus of voices calling for Agema to resign his position as a member of the RNC, calls that Agema has so far resisted.

Project Queer: If you follow Tyler Oakley, then you should be well-aware of his blatant racism and transmisogyny - among many other -isms. How you worded your question suggests that only I think he is doing things wrong, and I need to prove he is problematic (when in actuality, all you need to do is visit his blog or listen to him speak.)

Whether or not you mean to offend anyone is irrelevant. If you really want to know something, do research on it. Do not just rely or expect someone to hand everything to you. If you type “tyler oakley r” into google, “tyler oakley racist” is literally the first subject that comes up - with “tyler oakley racism” shortly after.

This is an old tweet, from one of the presidential debates, but it is something that is still relevant. Dan Savage has been known for his ignorant comments about race, trans individuals, bisexuality, asexuality and everything else under the sun, but what is interesting about this particular tweet is that in his world it is okay to make sexist comments in the name of irony or sarcasm  And we, the follower, are idiots if we don’t get that what he is saying is sarcastic and not just another one of his nonsensical comments.

This is what makes Dan Savage dangerous: he gets the blessing of being an equality champion from the mainstream straight and gay media without ever being called out on his various modes of oppressive statements. Savage become a creditable source for the mainstream (in actuality he really only advocates for those individuals that share his characteristics) while everyone else who isn’t in the mainstream are left to figure out how they can get their message of oppression out to the world and perhaps also show the hypocrisy of Savage.

WESTBORO ANNOUNCES PLANS TO PICKET NEWTOWN SCHOOL SHOOTING FUNERALS AND IS HACKED BY ANONYMOUS

When the Westboro Baptist Church announced it would picket the funerals of the children who were murdered at the Sandy Hook elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut last week, the hate group not only sparked worldwide outrage, they were also immediately targeted by the hacking collective known as Anonymous.

Shortly after the announcement, the ‘God Hates Fags’ church found its website attacked by the hackers who began to post the personal contact details of the hate group’s main organizers. The church claims the children were murdered as a punishment from God for the recent advances in LGBT equality.

According to Pink News:
Shirley Phelps-Roper, the attorney daughter of the church’s founder Fred Phelps Tweeted: “Westboro will picket Sandy Hook Elementary School to sing praise to God for the glory of his work in executing his judgment.”

After Anonymous posted her telephone number on Twitter, she Tweeted that if you contact her or other church members: “We’ll tell you those kids died for fag marriage.”

Another church member Tweeted” “God Almighty smacked USA with #Sandy & she’s brazen in her sin still; THEN He gives you a right hook – make that #SandyHook! #RepentingYet??”

The church’s founder Fred Phelps Tweeted “That’s the message that this evil nation and world need: that God Almighty is on the march & nothing is gonna stop Him.”

His son Fred Phelps junior Tweeted: “Beautiful work of an angry God who told Wisconsin to keep their filthy hands off his people (WBC)!”

At a moment like this we can’t help wondering when wilful hate speech directed at a group of people stops being free speech and results in disciplinary action. Our thoughts and hearts go out to the families whose loss is being targeted by this hate group.

Anti-gay Sally Kern this time slams black people

An Oklahoma lawmaker who gained national notoriety with an anti-homosexual rant in 2008 disparaged blacks and women during a debate this week on an affirmative action bill, prompting the head of the state NAACP chapter to demand her resignation. Republican state Rep. Sally Kern, of Oklahoma City, said Thursday she was sorry for remarks she made on the floor of the House and that she had “misspoke.”

During a legislative debate late Wednesday, Kern questioned whether there were disproportionately high numbers of blacks in state prisons because “they didn’t want to work hard in school.” Kern also said women don’t work as hard as men because they “tend to think a little bit more about their families.”

The president of the Oklahoma State Conference of the National Association of the Advancement of Colored People rejected Kern’s apology.

“Her constituents in her district should call for her to step down unless they support her in what she said,” Anthony Douglas said. “Let’s send a message out that in Oklahoma we will not tolerate racism at its ugliest level.”

Kern, a retired teacher, is serving her fourth two-year term in the House after being easily re-elected in November from a district that has traditionally supported socially conservative candidates.

“Women are some of the hardest workers in the world,” she said in her statement Thursday. She also said her husband “is a pastor of a diverse inner-city church and the way that my words came out last night is certainly not my true spirit.”

In 2008, Kern was criticized after saying at a political forum that gay people posed a greater threat to the U.S. than terrorists. In 2009, she campaigned for a proclamation criticizing the government for drifting from traditional Christian values.

Kern’s remarks Wednesday came during a debate on a proposed constitutional amendment to end discrimination and preferential treatment in state government hiring and contracting based on race, color, sex, ethnicity or national origin. It passed the House 59-14 and now goes to voters next year.

“It kind of seems to me that the premise here tonight is that color and sex is the sole factor that determines whether or not you get ahead or whether or not you don’t get ahead,” Kern said during the debate.

“It’s character that ought to count, not whether or not you’re black, whether you’re white, whether you’re purple, whether you’re whatever. It should be your character. It should be your willingness to say I’m going to become everything I can become,” she said.

North Carolina Commissioner Bill James Has Called The Police About Your Threats

“People are entitled to their opinion, and that includes me,” says Bill James, the Mecklenburg County commissioner in North Carolina who called gays “sexual predators” who need to be kept out of the military.

“I don’t expect people to (always) agree with me. It’s a political discussion and I wouldn’t have raised it on my own, but Jennifer (Roberts) decided to wade in on it,” James adds, blaming his colleague for inciting his remarks — which caused so many of you to write James with nasty comments that he’s contacted police about the threats he’s received.

A North Carolina politician says he’s standing by his statement that gay people are “sexual predators.”

“People are entitled to their opinion, and that includes me,” Mecklenburg County commissioner Bill James (pictured) told The Charlotte Observer Thursday. His remarks came in an e-mail earlier this week to fellow commissioner Jennifer Roberts, who proposed that county officials send a letter to members of the North Carolina congressional delegation who voted to repeal “don’t ask, don’t tell.”

“Homosexuals are sexual predators,” James wrote. “Allowing homosexuals to serve in the US military with the endorsement of the Mecklenburg County Commission ignores a host of serious problems related to maintaining US military readiness and effectiveness not the least of which is the current Democrat plan to allow homosexuals (male and female) to share showers with those they are attracted to.”

There have been calls, including a petition on Change.org, for a formal reprimand of James, who in the past has made offensive statements about African-Americans and illegal immigrants as well as gays. Said Roberts, however: “I just don’t know if it helps or hurts the end goal by making any kind of formal statement.”

Roberts added that since other commissioners have raised questions about a joint letter on DADT repeal, she will send one on her own. James, meanwhile, said he’s contacted police because of threats he’s received.

An antigay commissioner in North Carolina’s Mecklenburg County called gay people “sexual predators” in an e-mail response to a letter from a fellow commissioner asking her colleagues to sign a thank-you note to the state’s officials who voted to repeal “don’t ask, don’t tell.”

Mecklenburg County commissioner Jennifer Roberts circulated the letter earlier this month, prompting an angry response from Bill James.

“Homosexuals are sexual predators,” James wrote in response to the e-mail from Roberts. “Allowing homosexuals to serve in the U.S. military with the endorsement of the Mecklenburg County Commission ignores a host of serious problems related to maintaining U.S. military readiness and effectiveness not the least of which is the current Democrat plan to allow homosexuals (male and female) to share showers with those they are attracted to.”

In 2009, James made headlines for mumbling the word “homo” after a colleague spoke of her son dying of AIDS. A few years earlier, he was quoted as saying people of color “live in a moral sewer.”

Change.org is urging people to sign a petition to the Mecklenburg County board urging members to censure James “for repeatedly using his work e-mail to bash LGBT folks.” James was just reelected to his seat.

Three months after announcing she would sign of from her current radio show at the end of the year in the wake of her now infamous “n-word” rant, Dr. Laura Schlessinger will debut a new 3-hour radio show on Sirius XM in January.

The Associated Press reports Dr. Laura will begin on Sirius XM on January 3, three days after signing off from her current radio show.

Dr. Laura apologized her use of the “n-word” in August and announced on Larry King Live she decided not to renew her contract when it expires this year because she doesn’t want her opinions, however provocative, to be muzzled.

“I want to regain my First Amendment rights,” she said on the show. “I want to be able to say what’s on my mind and in my heart and what I think is helpful and useful without somebody getting angry, some special interest group deciding this is the time to silence a voice of dissent and attack affiliates, attack sponsors. I’m sort of done with that.”

No stranger to controversy, in 2000, gay activists launched StopDrLaura.com after she referred to homosexuality as a “biological error.” Further, she said, “a huge portion of the male homosexual populace is predatory on young boys.”

Marriage “is not a civil right – you’re not black,” Coulter said to nervous laughter. She went on to note that gays are among the wealthiest demographic groups in the country. “Blacks must be looking at the gays saying, ‘Why can’t we be oppressed like that?’”
