Last year, hundreds of attendees gathered together at Pilsen’s Union Park for the first-ever T.G.I.F. rally, battling a surprise summer rain to be there. Standing for “Transgender, Gender Non-Conforming, Intersex Freedom,” the event sought to bring together these three groups for their own pride event. The event often got the misnomer of “Trans* Pride,” but it was more than that. The day saw speakers, musicians and a performance of What’s the T? from About Face’s Youth Theatre, which looks at the intersections of race, class and gender in Boystown through the eyes of youth. The event was families and communities coming together to organize, to dialogue and to celebrate their togetherness. This was a day for everyone. Read more.

World's First Transgender Hackathon Planned for September

This September, software developers, designers, and LGBT activists will meet in Oakland, CA., for Trans*H4CK, the worlds first transgender hackathon aimed to address issues specific to the transgender community.

According to ZDNet.com, the 48-hour hackfest, which is scheduled for September 13-15, will focus on hacking apps, sites, products and solutions that address the needs, risks, issues and consumer interests of transgender communities. Money is currently being raised through a GoFundMe campaign for space rental, travel sponsorships for out of town participants, payment for guest speakers and prizes.

The event is the brainchild of activist, artist and scholar, Dr. Kortney Ryan Ziegler, who is is building the capacity of Who We Know, a social enterprise centered on economic empowerment for transgender people through entrepreneurship, with Trans*H4CK its first public event.

Petition nears 150,000 target urging Google Play store to remove ‘gay cure’ app

A petition started two weeks ago to urge the Google Play app store to ban a Christian app claiming to be able to “cure” homosexuality, has almost reached its 150,000 signatures target.
